In order to aid you in moving to Spain we have gathered customs information. We advise you to carefully review the information relating to moving to Spain. You may find more up to date information at your local consulate or embassy. Please note, customs regulations are subject to change at any time. Documentation Required
  1. For the Canary Islands:
  2. Passport (original) with last entry stamp by the Police or photocopy of same legalized by a Notary Public
  3. Certificate of Domicile obtained from the local Town Hall (original)
  4. N.I.E. Number - identification number (original) Could take 2-3 weeks to obtain
  5. Flight tickets on entry (original)
  6. Inventory (original) in Spanish with a valuation signed by Customer
  7. Rental Contract or Escritura-Title Deed to property (original)
  8. Application of Residence
  9. All Islands can vary in required documentation
  10. For Spain:
  11. Passport with last entry stamp (original or copy legalized by Spanish Consulate at origin)
  12. Spanish Identification Card (D.N.I.)
  13. Residence Visa
  14. Residence/Work Permit (original)
  15. A bank guarantee is required if a Residence/Work Permit is not available. Shipment MAY be released with a deposit of a bank guarantee which must be canceled within one year
  16. Certificate of Origin/Certificate of Residence Change ("Asunto Cambio Residencia"), provided by the local city hall, stating customer has resided abroad for a minimum of 12 months (EC countries for six months)
  17. Residence rental/purchase agreement (legalized) showing a minimum rent of two years
  18. Letter from employer stating that employee will be working in Spain
  19. Consular registration
  20. Fiscal identification number (N.I.E.)
  21. Non-Spanish citizens must obtain a consular or residence resign at origin stating that the customer has canceled his residence at origin due to moving to Spain
  22. Customs application for duty-free import
  23. Letter authorizing destination agent to clear shipment
  24. Detailed inventory in Spanish, valued (two copies) signed and dated by the customer, legalized by Spanish Consulate at origin and valued
  25. Must show contents of cartons, state goods have not been used for more than six months and list all major appliances with make, model and serial number
  26. Purchase invoice for appliances may be necessary; customer should be advised to hand carry these with them!
  27. Shipments NOT PROPERLY DOCUMENTED will be assessed import duties and taxes, at values determined by Spanish Customs and face lengthy delays and additional charges
  28. IF CLEARANCE PROCEDURES ARE NOT INITIATED BECAUSE OF LACK OF DOCUMENTS, SHIPMENT MAY BE SUBJECT TO AUCTION BY SPANISH CUSTOMS AFTER ONE MONTH
Customs Regulations
  1. SHIPMENT MUST NOT MOVE UNTIL ALL DOCUMENTS ARE IN ORDER AND CUSTOMER IS IN SPAIN
  2. Used household goods may be duty-free if:
  3. Owned minimum six months (EC countries three months) prior to arrival in Spain and customer can prove ownership for this period
  4. Will remain in customer's possession for a minimum of one year
  5. The contents correspond to customer's status
  6. Used household goods must be imported no later than twelve months after customer has obtained a Residence/Work Permit in Spain
  7. Shipment must arrive no later than three months after customer; special permit necessary if shipment arrives later, resulting in ADDITIONAL CHARGES AND DELAYS
Dutiable and Restricted Items
  1. New items (less than six months old)
  2. Tobacco products
  3. Foodstuff, antiques, art objects and ammunition require SPECIAL PERMIT
  4. Liquor
Prohibited Items
  1. Weapons and ammunition (need special permit from the Spanish Police, obtained by the owner from "Direccion General de la Guardia Civil")
  2. A complete description such as model, caliber, serial number, etc. are required
  3. Spanish Police will retain it until final permission is granted
  4. Drugs
  5. Pornographic material
  6. Cleaning Fluids
  7. Paints
Motor Vehicles
  1. Including motorcycles and motor scooters
  2. Duty-free import may be allowed for limited time (six months); import duties and taxes will be payable upon application for permanent permit
  3. Customer must have resided outside Spain for at least twelve months (six months for EC countries)
  4. Must have been used by customer minimum of six months
  5. Modifications that alter original design are prohibited
  6. Temporary permit can be obtained at Customs (valid for six months),
  7. Customer must obtain Spanish Vehicle Registration within this time
  8. Documents required:
  9. Purchase Invoice or Certificate of Ownership
  10. Registration or Title
  11. Circulation Permit
  12. Tax Receipt
  13. Liability Insurance on auto must be valid and running
  14. License plates from country of origin
  15. Identification Card ("Documento Nacional de Identidad")
  16. Passport or Residence Card
  17. Title issued under the owner's name
  18. Valid Insurance
  19. ORIGINALS are required for above documents
Animals and Pets
  1. Dogs, cats, birds, etc. allowed with Health and Vaccination Certificate (CONSULARIZED at origin) from veterinarian
