In order to aid you in moving to Paraguay we have gathered customs information. We advise you to carefully review the information relating to moving to Paraguay. You may find more up to date information at your local consulate or embassy. Please note, customs regulations are subject to change at any time. Documentation Required
  1. Returning Paraguay Citizen: All Paraguayan living abroad for more than 2 years may import duty and port tax free their used personal effects, HHGS and tools of trade, but they can not import vehicles duty free. Required documentation to be presented in person (3 weeks prior to shipment arrival) to the Repatriation Office in Asuncion to obtain the required Repatriation Certificate:
    • Paraguayan ID
    • ID from Origin country
    • Inventory (in Spanish)
    • Bill of Lading visaed by the Paraguayan Consulate at origin in two (2) sets
    • Letter/Certificate from the Paraguayan Consulate at origin
  2. Temporary Residents: Port taxes and duties for household goods, personal effects and vehicles are applicable. Temporary Residence Permit (valid for one year, 2 months to process) is required to enable import!
  3. Permanent Residents: They may import their household goods and personal effects duty and port tax free, within the first six months of obtaining the residence permit. Required documentation to be presented in person (3 weeks prior to shipment arrival) to the Immigration Office in Asuncion to obtain the required Customs Certificate:
    • Inventory visaed by the Paraguayan Consulate at origin
    • Bill of Lading visaed by the Paraguayan Consulate at origin
    • Original residence permit
  4. In both cases, additional documents and steps are required after the immigrants arrive, to obtain residence in Paraguay. Please contact the Paraguayan Consulate for additional information.
  5. Foreign Diplomats: They may import their household goods and personal effects duty free, but must pay port taxes.
Customs Regulations
  1. CUSTOMER MUST BE IN COUNTRY AT TIME OF CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
  2. Household goods and personal effects duty-free for:
  3. Foreigners with Residence Visa
  4. Paraguaynians returning after two years abroad
  5. Shipments must arrive within six months of Customer
  6. All shipments inspected
  7. Customs inspection, Customs charges and Customs Broker's charges all payable by Customer at time of clearance
  8. Additional charges incurred for storage or customs delays will be for Customer's account
Dutiable and Restricted Items
  1. New items, alcohol, jewelry, coins
Prohibited Items
  1. Foodstuff and plants
  2. Narcotics and drugs
  3. Straw or hay packing in lift-vans
  4. Firearms, weapons and ammunition
Motor Vehicles
  1. High duty payable by customer at approximately 27%-30% of CIF value
  2. Customer and broker must process documentation and pay duties. Customs clearance process is lengthy and demurrage is likely.

Animals and Pets
  1. Certificate of Health and Rabies Vaccination required
  2. 30 day quarantine period required
