Documentation Required
  1. Valued Inventory (in English) describing contents of cartons (PBO - "packed by owner" and miscellaneous are not acceptable), and showing specific details for all electrical and electronic items and invoices for new items and invoices for new items.
  2. Original Insurance Certificate
  3. CTD (Customs Transit Declaration) for shipments cleared at Indian ports
  4. Letter authorizing Destination Agent to clear shipment
  5. Customers contact address and phone number in Nepall
  6. Diplomatic shipments require a Diplomatic Exemption Certificate issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with CIF value of the shipment
  7. Duty-Free Exemption Certificate issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with CIF value of the shipment is required for privileged persons (most foreign experts, advisors, and consultants for the Government)
  8. Foreign Nationals on private contract and returning Nepallese must ALSO provide the following documents:
  9. Passport of Customer and each member of the family
  10. Certificate of his Employer stating income sources of Customer
  11. Import License issued by the Department of Commerce
  12. ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED WELL IN ADVANCE (minimum 20 to 30 days) OF ARRIVAL OF SHIPMENT AT INDIAN PORT TO AVOID HEAVY DEMURRAGE AND OTHER ADDITIONAL CHARGES
Customs Regulations
  1. CUSTOMER MUST BE PRESENT AT CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
  2. ALL SHIPMENTS INSPECTED
  3. Privileged persons are free of Customs duties and taxes on their household goods shipments
  4. Duty-free import is valid for six months from Customer's arrival date
  5. Since shipments are often routed via Calcutta, shipments are subject to control and inspection by Indian Customs, CTD essential
  6. Shipment must be consigned to owners full name and address in Nepal
Dutiable and Restricted Items
  1. New items require an invoice and Certificate of Origin
  2. Long list of dutiable items including electrical and electronic goods, cosmetics and new items (Customer must obtain further information from Consulate of Nepall)
  3. Antiques, pure silver and gold must be declared at the time of arrival and be re-exported at time of departure from Nepal
Prohibited Items
  1. Weapons and ammunition (must obtain prior approval from the Government of Nepal before importing)
  2. Drugs
  3. Beef products
  4. Pornographic material
Motor Vehicles
  1. Privileged persons can import an auto duty-free
  2. Vehicles over five years old are prohibited
  3. Documents required:
  4. Invoice showing model, engine number and chassis number
  5. Registration and Ownership Certificate for used autos
Animals and Pets
  1. Health Certificate
  2. Allowed as accompanied or as unaccompanied baggage
  3. Customer's presence required for clearance
