In order to aid you in moving to Colombia we have gathered customs information. We advise you to carefully review the information relating to moving to Colombia. You may find more up to date information at your local consulate or embassy. Please note, customs regulations are subject to change at any time. Documentation Required
  1. Original Passport for customer and all family members
  2. Visa (mandatory for consignee) valid for at least one year
  3. Residence or Work Visa
  4. Foreigners must apply for Work or Residence Permit
  5. Certificate of Residence issued by the Colombian Consulate, certifying that owner has lived abroad for at least two continuous years
  6. Inventory (in Spanish)
  7. Inventory must show:
  8. For ALL MAJOR APPLIANCES AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT (vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens, roasters, TVs, VCRs, stereos, small personal computers, etc.) state the MAKE, MODEL, AND SERIAL NUMBER
  9. If possible, pack all electronic appliances together
  10. Transmittal documents showing actual weights and/or volume, delivery details, etc.
  11. Diplomats must have Diplomatic Entry Form, to be requested from Foreign Ministry by Diplomatic Mission
Customs Regulation
  1. Only one household goods shipment from one country allowed per family
  2. All shipments pay duty, import tax, sales tax (VAT), and warehouse fees which are charged to customer's account
  3. Owner must have lived outside of the country for at least two years
  4. Owner must not have imported any household goods in the last seven years
  5. Customs may ask for Bank Guarantee that goods will not be sold for one year
  6. Shipments 100% inspected
  7. Household goods must arrive within 30 days before or 120 days after the arrival of the customer
Dutiable and Restricted Items
  1. Duties/taxes on C.I.F. value of household goods are assessed
  2. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products in small quantities are subject to duties and sales tax (Import License may be required)
  3. One sporting weapon is permitted per family
  4. Only one of each major electrical appliance is allowed, except air conditioners which are limited to three
  5. Bedroom furniture must correspond to the number of persons in the family
Prohibited Items
  1. Weapons and ammunition
  2. Drugs
  3. Pornographic and subversive literature, films, tapes, etc.
  4. Uniforms or equipment relating to the Police or Armed Forces
Animals and Pets
  1. Vaccination Certificate
  2. Import License
  3. Notarized Health Certificate from Veterinarian
  4. Quarantine IS NOT required for cats and dogs
  5. Contact destination agent prior to forwarding
Motor Vehicles
  1. As of 1/1/94 no USED automobile may be imported into Colombia
  2. Import License is required and MUST be obtained prior to arrival of auto
  3. Do not include an auto as part of the household goods shipment
  4. DO NOT SHIP VEHICLES UNTIL ALL DOCUMENTS ARE IN ORDER
  5. NON-COMPLIANCE WILL RESULT IN SEIZURE/STORAGE OF SHIPMENT AT GREAT ADDITIONAL EXPENSE
  6. Documents required:
  7. Original Commercial Invoice (detailed and in US dollars)
  8. Title
  9. Registration
  10. Copy of Bill of Sale
  11. ALL DOCUMENTS (Invoice, etc.) must agree with the Import License
